We're always happy to make a home visit, and we're just one
call away. However, the following is a check list of tips
that can assist you in identifying a problem.
Basic Furnace/or Air Conditioning Troubleshooting
1. Check Air Filter - A dirty, clogged air filter will significantly
reduce air flow and can cause the furnace to overheat and
shut itself off, or in the case of air conditioning, reduce
the effectiveness or efficiency of the unit.
2. Check the Breaker - If your furnace suddenly turns off,
check your electrical panel. The second place to check is
on the side of the unit itself, or behind the cover of the
unit. With a central air conditioner, you will find disconnect
switches on the indoor and outdoor units of your system.
3. Check the Thermostat - Sometimes a problem is in the thermostat,
not the furnace, especially if annual checks and calibrations
are not performed. Test the thermostat to see if you can get
the furnace to respond.
4. Check to ensure the furnace bottom door is in place --
If it isn't, secure it. This is a safety feature on some furnaces
that will cause a shut-down.
Other tips to keep your home heating and cooling system in
top performance condition include seasonal service checks
and cleaning. Be sure to plan ahead for spring and fall service
checks.
Spring:
In spring, we clean the condensing unit of your air conditioner
and check the thermostat, electrical wiring, fan motor, filters
and compressor so you will enjoy a cool summer.
Fall:
Our technicians will inspect your heat exchanger, burners,
safety controls, thermocouple or flame sensor, pilot, fan
and limit, thermostat, air filters, blowers, belts, flue pipe
and panels during a pre-winter furnace inspection. You'll
ensure optimum efficiency and warmth with this simple check.
